Finding My Space: A Creative’s Quest for Belonging
I was so ready to come home and write the thickest blog post about this experience. Guys…I stepped out of my comfort zone by attending a space I won’t name but it rhymes with Rewrite Rattle & it’s cool and all but was lacking on the diversity aspect of things. You know when a place is for you & when it is for people of color. I won’t say this is my last time frequenting a space with folks that don’t look like me but next time I will know what to expect when I walk into a room. So we continue on the quest to find spaces and places for folks that look like me over here on the west coast. Writers & creatives…seeking to unravel the wonders of this realm and express themselves loud and proud on the mountaintop. I guess what I am craving is the soulfulness of the dirty south. I just know there are people who carry their passion and I will find them.

Okkkk guys it’s intermission time and on second thought I will be back. I judged the book too soon. Do we need this event to reach other demographics? Absolutely. But was it entertaining & liberating? More than I could’ve imagined. I am like a sponge soaking up every piece of knowledge possible. The stories are rich. The people are kind. The wine? Is getting me where I need to be. I think it’s safe to say that I’ve been transformed. To all of the readers….there is beauty over the horizon if you can just get over that crushing feeling of climbing what seems to be such an unbearable mountain. All is well & I am grateful to have this experience. Let’s see what the next five speakers hold. To be continued…
